Book Signing at Ottumwa Church
May 18 - Local author Glenn McCoy will have a book signing on Sunday, May 18th from 2-4pm at the Ottumwa Baptist Temple fellowship hall. His new book is entitled "It Seemed Like the End". The book signing is open to the public.
Carnival Auction in Fremont
May 24 - A Carnival Auction will be held Saturday, May 24th at the Fremont Baptist Church. The yard sale begins at 8am, a carnival at 10am, and an auction at 3pm. Lots of food, prizes, games, and donations made by many area businesses. Located at 133 South Walnut Street in Fremont.
Eddyville City-Wide Garage Sale
June 7 - Eddyville's Annual City Wide Garage Sales will be held Saturday, June 7th from 7-2pm.
Ottumwa Fire Station Ice Cream Social
May 28 - Students from Evans Middle School in Ottumwa will host an Ice Cream Social on Wednesday, May 28 from 4-8pm at the northside Ottumwa Fire Station. Funds raised are for the Ottumwa Fire Department Community Outreach program. This program allows for all citizens to have access to properly have installed fire and smoke detectors, batteries for detectors, house address and numbers painted on curbs all done by the fire department. The students have a goal of raising $5000.
Van Buren County Ambulance EMS Day
May 24 - The 3rd annual Van Buren County Ambulance EMS Day will be held Saturday, May 24 from 9-12noon at the Van Buren County Fairgrounds. Keosauqua Fire Department and Jaws demonstrations, Air Evac landing at 9am with tours of the helicopter, free blood pressure checks, information cards, finger print ID cards for first 100 children, and child car seat checks. Take this opportunity to see everything your communities have to offer in EMS and Fire and to say "Thank You" to all your volunteers.
Vintage Cruisers in Ottumwa
July 19 - The Vintage Cruisers Car Club proudly presents "Memories 2008" on Saturday, July 19th at Bridge View Center in Ottumwa. This is the 11th Anniversary Car Show and "The Hottest Show in Southeast Iowa". Cruise night will be held Friday night, July 18th at 5pm at the Park Shelter House in Greater Ottumwa Park. Cash prizes will be given away. Special events include the 4-H Expo Exhibits in Bridge View Center, Poppin' Johnnies Two-Cylinder Tractor Club, and the 4-H Sweet Corn Feed at 12noon. 32 classes with three awards per class plus special awards. Trophies by Keokuk Trophy Outlet.
Show Day Schedule: Registration 8-9am... Show & Shine 9-3pm... Voting 11-1pm... Awards Presentation 3pm.
Volunteers Needed at Lake Red Rock
April thru September - Spend the summer camping at Lake Red Rock for free! The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will provide a free, full hook-up campsite to volunteers in the following position: Whitebreast Beach Volunteer and Wallashuck Mowing Volunteer. Volunteers are needed from late April thru mid-September 2008. Contact Park Ranger Junifer Kruse at 641 828-7522.
