The Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont softball team, in just its second-ever state tournament appearance, will play for the Class 2A championship.
The Rockets advanced to the final on Thursday by knocking off #1 Highland 6-2 in Fort Dodge. EBF got off to the start it needed by scoring three runs in the top of the second. Highland scored single runs in the second and third innings, but the Rockets grabbed an insurance run in the fourth and two more in the seventh to pull away.
Nataliah Hopkins had another strong start for EBF, allowing just one earned run over seven innings. Rachel Maloy and McKinley Moore each had a pair of RBI for the Rockets, who improved to 26-5 on the season. Highland lost for just the second time all season, falling to 32-2.
In the other 2A semifinal, Earlham used a walkoff home run to beat Woodbury Central 3-2, setting up a title-game tilt between Earlham and Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont. The Class 2A championship game on Friday begins at 12:15.
