Eight members of the Ottumwa High baseball team earned all-conference honors in 2014. The CIML coaches’ all-confererence teams were announced on Thursday.
Ottumwa’s lone first-team all-Metro selection is catcher Brok Hopwood. The junior hit an even .300 with seven doubles, a triple and 16 RBI this past season. He also established himself as a defensive force at catcher, throwing out 20 of 31 runners on attempted steals.
Four Bulldogs were named second team all-Metro. Pitcher Steven Wilson was dominant in his senior season, posting an 0.86 ERA and allowing opponents to hit just .226 against him. Two of Wilson’s wins came against #2 Waukee and #3 Cedar Rapids Kennedy. Second baseman/shortstop Curtis Schneckloth had a breakout senior season, batting .313 with six doubles, a triple and 22 RBI. Center fielder Spencer Nelson also shined as a senior, with a team-best .340 batting average and 30 runs scored. Third baseman/shortstop/pitcher Chase Wood, who made the second team as a utility player, hit .301 with a team-high 25 RBI and went 3-0 with a 1.75 ERA on the mound.
Seniors Spencer Fuller and Cooper Smith, along with junior Aaron Roane, received honorable mention All-Metro recognition.
