An Ottumwa educator is being honored. Ottumwa High School Principal Mark Hanson has been named one of the top principals in the state by the School Administrators of Iowa.
Several staff members nominated Hanson last spring. He was among more than 1800 principals nominated for the honor.
Hanson says his goals when he became principal at OHS was to improve academics by improving the culture and climate at the school. Since then the graduation rate has risen to over 90-percent.
In addition, Hanson received an award from the Iowa Cheer Coaches Association for Administrator of the year.
