(Ottumwa)— A number of Ottumwa residents got a sneak peek Wednesday as to what an apartment complex will look like if aCedar Rapids investment company purchases Wildwood Elementary School.
Tom Frantz from Frantz Community Investors says his firm has visited with city and school officials over the purchase of the school which is listed on the National Register of Historical place.
Frantz says there is a need for senior living facilities and the Wildwood building would fit that need. Preliminary plans call for the school building to be turned into 16 apartments under phase one. Phase two will include the construction of an adjoining building for additional apartment units. The three phase will involved the development of several duplex units.
If the Ottumwa Board of Education decides to sell the property to the Cedar Rapids company the housing project will be construction over a number of years
During the meeting Wednesday at Bridgeview Center Frantz tried to assure the community the company is not interested in purchasing the Frank Huston Softball field.
