Southeast Iowa missed out on the severe weather that hit other parts of the state over night. Severe storms moved from Nebraska into northwest Iowa Monday afternoon and continued marching across the northern and northeastern part of Iowa over night.
A storm with a wind guest of 54 mph moved through the Ottumwa area about 2:30 Tuesday morning.
A spokes person for the NWS told Ottumwa radio new the 54 mph wind guest was recorded at the Ottumwa Regional airport.
However wind gusts may have been stronger on the southwestern edge of Ottumwa. A spokesman for the Ottumwa Police Department told Ottumwa Radio news several large trees were blown over on the city’s south side including a large tree that was blown over onto the Blue Grass Road by Shaul Cemetery blocking traffic.
There is a possibility of more severe weather in the forecast for later today and again Wednesday night into Thursday.
