Council Gets upbeat report on BVC

The executive Director of Bridge View Center says Ottumwa is still in the running to host a Mumford and Sons concert sometime in 2015.

During Tuesday’s City Council meeting, Larry Gawronski told the council, officials from Mumford and Sons will make a site visit to Ottumwa this fall.  Gawronski says Ottumwa is still in the hunt as a concert site.  Specifically Gawronski says officials are looking at a site that could accommodate 10-thousand campers.

He says several sites in Ottumwa could be considered including the Ottumwa Regional Airport.  The Bridge View Center Director says officials from Mumford and Sons like a site that includes a body of  water.

Last year a video was produced that features Ottumwa High School singers singing Mumford and Son’s song “I Can’t Wait for You”, but the words were changed to “We Can’t Wait for You.”  The video has been placed on Youtube and has received thousands of hits.  A copy was also sent to Mumford and Sons.

Gawronski also told the council last night more than 15-hundred people attended the Bill Cosby Show two weeks ago at Bridge View Center.  He says that had an economic impact of more than $72,000 dollars.  Gawronski says the box office grossed $96,564 in ticket sales and those that came to Ottumwa for the show spent more than $31,000 dollars.

Since the first of the year 109,169 people have attended an event at Bridge View Center.

And in observance of bonds  being paid off for construction of Bridge View Center, those attending last night’s council meeting received a piece of cake that was decorated  to look like Bridge View Center.
