Indian Hills Community College has both the top player and the best pitcher in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference this week.
Falcons’ outfielder Joel Booker, a sophomore from Columbus, N.C., won Player of the Week honors after going 7-for-12 in a weekend series against Marshalltown CC. Booker drove in four runs and scored six times, walked once, was hit by a pitch three times, once with the bases loaded, and stole a couple of bases.
Booker has put together a tremendous season for IHCC. He is batting a robust .414 with nine homers and 61 RBIs. He leads all players in the region in at-bats (181), runs (58), hits (75) and RBIs and is tied for the lead in triples with seven. The fleet Booker is also 24-for-26 in stolen bases.
Freshman righthander Nick Green, from Fountain, Colo., is the conference Pitcher of the Week after firing a no-hitter against MCC on Sunday. Green faced one batter over the minimum in his masterpiece, struck out seven and retired the last 17 batters in a row while reaching 93mph with his fastball.
The win improved Green’s season record to 3-1 and lowered his ERA to 2.97. He has allowed 29 hits and 12 earned runs in 36 innings with 14 walks and 34 Ks.
The Falcons, by virtue of winning three-of-four games from Marshalltown, earned the No. 1 seed for this weekend’s Region 11 tournament, which they will host at Pat Daugherty Field in Centerville Saturday and Sunday. They will play at 2:00 and 5:00 on Saturday afternoon in the double-elimination tourney.
