OPD asking for public’s help

(Ottumwa)— The Ottumwa Police Department is asking for the public’s help in regards to an incident that occurred Tuesday afternoon.

Police Chief Tom McAndrew says shortly after 3:30 p.m. Tuesday police received a report from a concerned citizen that a subject sitting in a car parked in the 100 block of East Third Str4eet was possibly in need of medical assistance.  When officers arrived on the scene they made contact with 36 year old Jason Andrew Tobeck.

When Tobeck exited the vehicle he fled on foot into the Third Street Parking lot.  Officers pursued Tobeck on foot.  A short time later Tobeck was taken into custody.  He was charged with Interference with official acts, Open container and Public Intoxication.  He was released after posting a two thousand dollar bond.

The vehicle occupied by Tobeck was a white 2013 Dodge Charger…….a rental vehicle.  The vehicle had damage indicating it had been involved in an accident.  Officers also observed what appeared to be blood on the outside of the vehicle.  Anyone having information concerning the vehicle being involved in an accident is asked to contact the Ottumwa Police Department’s investigations unit by calling 683-0661.
